Slănic-Moldova

The 'Pearl of Moldavia' of mineral springs.

Slănic-Moldova is a spa resort in Bacău County, in Moldavia, set in a narrow, wooded valley at the foot of the Nemira Mountains, in the east of the Eastern Carpathians. Nicknamed "the Pearl of Moldavia", it is one of the oldest and most elegant spa resorts in Romania, with a tradition dating back to the first half of the 19th century.

The resort owes its fame to its mineral springs, discovered in 1801 and considered among the best in Europe, compared with the waters of Karlovy Vary or Vichy. These springs, of varied composition, are recommended for digestive, hepatic and metabolic conditions. The central spa park, with springs captured in pavilions, and the belle époque architecture, with period villas and casinos, give the resort a nostalgic and refined air.

Set at altitude, in a tonic mountain climate with clean air and coniferous forests, Slănic-Moldova is ideal both for spa cures and for hiking and relaxation. The surrounding landscapes, with mountain paths and views over the Nemira, round off the experience. The atmosphere is quiet and restorative, far from the crowds of the larger resorts.

Moldavian gastronomy offers sour soups, stews, pies and traditional dishes. Practically, the resort is reachable by car from Onești or Târgu Ocna. It is worth visiting for its renowned mineral waters, its period architecture, and its classic spa-resort atmosphere, in a mountain setting of singular beauty.
