SpaBăile Szejke
Szejke Baths, on the edge of Odorheiu Secuiesc, are a small traditional spa renowned for the mineral springs used by locals for centuries for their healing properties. The place is closely tied to the memory of Orbán Balázs, the great scholar and ethnographer of Székely Land, considered the greatest Székely, who was buried here and whose memory is honoured by a monument and an avenue of carved Székely gates, true works of folk art. Beyond the baths themselves, the area offers a quiet setting for walks, with forest nearby and clean air, suited to relaxation. It is a charming stop for those discovering Székely Land and its living traditions, easily combined with a visit to Odorheiu Secuiesc. Check the schedule and availability of the baths, which may vary by season, and allow time for the avenue of carved gates.
SpaBăile Sovata
Sovata Baths is one of the most renowned spa resorts of Transylvania, built around the string of salt lakes formed on the salt massif at the foot of the Gurghiu Mountains, in Mureș County. The star of the resort is Bear Lake, the largest heliothermic lake in Europe, whose waters, heated at depth owing to differences in salinity, reach high temperatures in summer, to the delight of bathers. Alongside it, Black Lake and the other salt lakes complete the therapeutic offer, feeding treatments based on concentrated saltwater and sapropelic mud, recommended for gynaecological, rheumatic and peripheral nervous system conditions. The resort earned its fame as early as the late nineteenth century, when villas of characteristic architecture began to rise among the woods. Today Sovata combines its spa tradition with modern hotels and wellness centres, arranged beaches and walking trails. Surrounded by forested hills, it is a destination for relaxation and treatment prized in every season.
SpaBăile Sărate Turda
Turda Salt Baths make up a spa complex of long tradition, built in the town of Turda in Cluj County, in an area renowned for centuries for its wealth of salt. The salt of Turda has been mined since antiquity, and the saltwater and mud in the vicinity of the old salt mines have recognised therapeutic properties, used in treating rheumatic and locomotor conditions. The bath complex offers saltwater pools, mud treatments and relaxation facilities, drawing on the natural resources of the area. Turda is known the world over above all for the spectacular Turda Salt Mine, an old salt mine transformed into a modern tourist attraction, with a panoramic wheel and an underground lake, located in the immediate vicinity. Together, the Salt Mine and the Salt Baths make the town a destination for wellness and geological curiosity. For visitors seeking relaxation and health benefits, Turda Salt Baths are a pleasant stop, combining spa tradition with the comfort of a modern facility.
SpaLacul Ursu Sovata
Lake Ursu in the resort of Sovata is the largest heliothermic lake in Europe and the main spa attraction of this area of Transylvania. Its name comes from its shape, which recalls an outstretched bear skin, and its most important feature is the phenomenon of heliothermy: the layer of fresh water at the surface lets the sun's rays warm the deeper, saltier layers, which can reach high temperatures even when the surface is cool. The lake formed after the collapse of a salt massif, and its high salinity and therapeutic mud earned it fame as a treatment resort, especially for gynaecological and rheumatic conditions. Beach facilities, bathing areas, and treatment bases developed around it from the end of the nineteenth century. Visitors can bathe in the salty water and benefit from the properties of the mud. It is advisable to follow the resort's rules on time spent in the concentrated water.
SpaAquapark Nymphaea Oradea
The Nymphaea Aquapark in Oradea is the largest aquatic complex in western Romania, a paradise for families open both in summer and in winter thanks to its covered areas. Built on the thermal water resources that give the city its fame, the complex blends fun with relaxation: outdoor and indoor pools, spectacular slides of varying thrill levels, a lazy river, children's play zones and thermal pools for wellness. The modern facilities, surrounding greenery and careful design make it a full-day destination. Oradea, a city known for its Art Nouveau architecture and its tradition of thermal baths, offers here a contemporary experience of that heritage. It is ideal for families with children and for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. Check the schedule, which differs between the warm and cold seasons, and which areas are available.
SpaBăile Tușnad Stațiune
Băile Tușnad is the smallest spa resort with town status in Romania, picturesquely set in the Olt river gorge between the Harghita and Bodoc mountains, in a natural setting of exceptional beauty. The forested surroundings offer numerous hiking trails, including the one that climbs toward Saint Ana Lake, the only volcanic lake in Romania, located nearby. Băile Tușnad is also known for the presence of brown bears, which sometimes descend to the edge of the town, calling for caution from visitors. The elegant villas, the parks and the quiet location in the heart of the mountains make the resort a pleasant place for relaxation. Set on the road between Transylvania and the Székely Land, Băile Tușnad is an ideal destination for lovers of nature, hiking and spa treatments in an authentic mountain landscape.
SpaStațiunea Covasna
Covasna Resort is one of the most famous spa resorts in Romania, known for its carbonated mineral springs and for the natural emanations of carbon dioxide, used in treating cardiovascular conditions. Located in southeastern Transylvania, at the foot of the mountains near Sfântu Gheorghe, the resort has over time gained the nickname of the resort of the heart, thanks to the effectiveness of its treatments for circulatory diseases. Here operate treatment facilities where carbonated baths and specific procedures are applied under the guidance of specialists. A well-known feature is the phenomenon called the devil's pool, a natural mofette where the gases rise to the surface. The clean mountain air, the picturesque setting and the spa infrastructure make Covasna a sought-after place for cures and rest. Practical note: spa treatments are usually done in an organised setting and based on medical recommendations, and those wishing to undergo a cure should inquire at the specialised facilities in the resort about the available procedures.
SpaBăile cu nămol Eforie Nord
The mud baths of Eforie Nord are one of the emblematic spa attractions of the Romanian coast, linked to Lake Techirghiol, a salty lagoon with a high concentration of salts and a sapropelic mud of recognised therapeutic properties. The black mud, rich in mineral and organic substances, has been used for more than a century to treat rheumatic and dermatological conditions and other health problems, applied in the classic cure by smearing it on the body and exposing it to the sun. The traditional ritual involves coating in mud, drying in the sun on the lakeshore, and rinsing in the salt water, an experience enjoyed by generations of visitors. The resort of Eforie Nord combines access to the Black Sea beaches with the spa treatments offered by the mud facilities near the lake. The area suits both relaxation and health cures, and the lagoon landscape contrasts pleasantly with the sea just a few steps away.
