Romania's highest mountain resort.
Predeal is the highest urban settlement in Romania, sitting at around 1,030 metres in the pass that links the Prahova Valley to the Bârsa Country, on the border between Muntenia and Transylvania. Ringed by the coniferous forests of the Bucegi, Postăvarul and Piatra Mare massifs, the town keeps a cool, clear air in every season and is prized alike for winter skiing and summer walking. Its ski area, with slopes of varied difficulty served by cable lifts, suits families and beginners, while trails toward the Susai, Trei Brazi and Poiana Secuilor chalets draw hikers.
Without grand historical monuments, Predeal builds its charm from landscape: old villas, trim guesthouses, the atmosphere of a high-altitude resort and the hush of the forest. The mood is relaxed, with a slow rhythm and a clear vocation as a wellness and rest destination. The cuisine follows the mountain canon — sour soups, roasts, sheep's cheeses, blueberry liqueur and herbal teas — often served beside a fireplace.
The town is remarkably accessible: its station lies on the Bucharest–Brașov main line, and the DN1 road runs through the centre, making Predeal a convenient stop between the capital and Transylvania. MountainMuntele Piatra Mare
Piatra Mare Mountain is a limestone massif of the Curvature Carpathians, near the resort of Predeal and the town of Brașov, prized by hikers for its varied scenery and the spectacular trails that cross it. The main crest, which exceeds 1800 metres, offers broad views over the neighbouring massifs, among them Bucegi, Postăvaru and Ciucaș, as well as over the surrounding valleys and forests. The mountain is renowned for its remarkable natural features, among them the Seven Ladders Canyon, a narrow defile of successive waterfalls equipped with metal ladders for passage, and the Ice Cave, where ice persists even in the warm season. The forested slopes, steep cliffs and springs add to the diversity of the landscape, and the area shelters a rich flora and fauna typical of the mountain environment. The hiking trails set off from Predeal, Timișul de Sus and other nearby villages, demanding good fitness and proper equipment. Piatra Mare remains a favourite destination for day trips in the heart of the Carpathians.

Predeal Monastery, also known as the Predeal Skete, is an Orthodox monastic settlement located in the mountain resort of Predeal, the highest-altitude town in Romania, in the pass between the Bucegi Mountains and the Baiu Mountains. Usually dedicated to St Paraskeva or other saints, the skete offers a place of prayer and reflection in an exceptional mountain setting, surrounded by coniferous forests and the ridges of the Carpathians. Its architecture belongs to the tradition of mountain places of worship, with wood and characteristic painting, blending austerity with the beauty of the landscape. Predeal, loved both in summer for its hikes and in winter for its ski slopes, gains through this settlement a spiritual dimension that complements its tourist offer. MountainPârtia Clăbucet Predeal
The Clabucet ski slope is one of the best-known ski areas in the resort of Predeal, the highest tourist town in Romania, set where the Bucegi, Baiu and Postavaru mountains meet. The slope runs down the flanks of Clabucet, offering runs for different levels of ability, from beginners to experienced skiers, and is served by cable transport installations. In winter the area attracts many lovers of cold-season sports, who make the most of the abundant snow and the mountain scenery. In the other seasons Clabucet becomes a starting point for hiking, with trails climbing towards the ridges and wide views over the resort and the surrounding mountains. Predeal is easily reached, lying on the main route that links Brasov with the Prahova Valley, which makes it a popular weekend destination. Suitable seasonal gear is recommended, along with checking the weather and snow conditions before setting out on the slope or on a hike.
NatureTrei Brazi Predeal
Trei Brazi is a broad, peaceful mountain clearing above the resort of Predeal, at the foot of the Baiu Mountains, in a zone of coniferous forest on the edge of the Curvature Carpathians. The place is known for its clean air, high elevation and open views toward the surrounding massifs, including the Bucegi and Postăvarul ranges. The meadow holds a traditional chalet and a small chapel, and serves as a classic starting point for hikes and easy walks, as well as ski touring in winter. In summer, the flowering pastures and marked paths draw families and nature lovers seeking a secluded corner away from the crowds of the resorts. As one of the restful landmarks of the Predeal area, Trei Brazi offers a pleasant contrast to the bustle of the centre. Access is by forest road or on foot along walking trails, and visitors are advised to dress properly for mountain conditions and to check the state of the road, especially in the cold season.
