Turnul Alb Brașov

The White Tower is one of the best-known defensive towers of old Saxon Brasov, built in the Middle Ages on a rock on Warthe Hill, outside the town walls, as an advanced point of observation and defence. Its unusual semicircular shape and the white walls that gave it its name make it easy to recognise in the town's panorama. The tower was tied to the defensive system of the guilds, each guild being responsible for maintaining a section of the fortifications.

From its platform opens a superb view over the historic centre, the Black Church and the red roofs lined up at the foot of Tampa Mountain. The climb to the tower goes up steps and paths among trees, a short but pleasant walk. Practical note: combine the visit with the nearby Black Tower and a walk along the town walls; morning or evening light gives the best photographs.
