Teatrul Maria Filotti

The Maria Filotti Theatre in Brăila is the city's most important performance institution and one of the emblematic buildings of Brăila's historic centre. The edifice, built at the end of the 19th century in an elegant architectural style, bears the name of the great actress Maria Filotti, a native of the area, and continues the rich theatrical tradition of this port city on the Danube. The auditorium impresses with its classic decor of balconies and ornamentation, and with a period atmosphere that evokes the splendour of old Brăila, when the city was an important cosmopolitan commercial hub.
The theatre hosts permanent seasons of drama, comedy and cultural events, serving as a reference point for the artistic life of the region. Its facade blends into the urban ensemble of Brăila, a city famous for its fan-shaped street plan and its historic buildings. Located in the centre, the theatre is easy to visit alongside the city's other attractions and stands as a testament to Brăila's rich cultural heritage.
