Sinagoga din Fabric

The Fabric Synagogue is one of the finest synagogues of Timișoara, raised in the Fabric district, one of the historic nuclei of the town on the Bega. Built in the second half of the nineteenth century for the numerous and flourishing Jewish community of the time, the synagogue impresses with its Moorish-style architecture, its domes, arcades and decorations recalling the tradition of Central European synagogues of the era. The monumental façade and the spacious interior testify to the importance and prosperity of the community that built it.

Timișoara hosted one of the most active Jewish communities in the Banat, and the town's three synagogues, in Cetate, Fabric and Iosefin, bear witness to this spiritual and cultural wealth. After decades in which it was left to decay, the Fabric Synagogue has come to the attention of restoration projects meant to restore its splendour. For visitors discovering Timișoara, a European Capital of Culture, it represents an important page in the multicultural history of the town.
