Parcul Regele Mihai I (Herăstrău)

The largest park in central Bucharest, King Mihai I Park — known for generations as Herăstrău — spreads generously around the lake of the same name in the north of the city. Laid out in the 1930s on drained marshland, it became the capital's green lung: over a hundred hectares of shaded paths, lawns, islands and shores where locals run, row boats or dine on terraces overlooking the water. Here you will find the Village Museum, the Island of Roses, the alley of busts and a handsome memorial square.

Spring and autumn are the ideal seasons, when light plays on the surface of the lake. You can rent boats and pedalos, and the full promenade around the lake is a soothing experience. Admission is free; check the schedule of restaurants and boat rentals.
