Parcul Etnografic Romulus Vuia

The Romulus Vuia Ethnographic Park in Cluj-Napoca is the oldest open-air museum in Romania, founded in the interwar period by the ethnographer whose name it bears. Set in the Hoia Forest on the edge of the city, the museum gathers authentic peasant households, wooden churches and traditional technical installations such as mills and fulling stocks, brought from various ethnographic areas of Transylvania and faithfully reconstructed in their natural setting. Walking among houses roofed with straw or shingle, fenced yards and traditional outbuildings carries you back in time, illustrating rural life, crafts and the vernacular architecture of the Transylvanian village.

The collection emphasises traditional occupations and the relationship between people and nature. The forest setting adds authenticity and quiet. Practical note: allow time for a relaxed walk along the paths; the museum is best visited in the warm season and is easily reached from the centre of Cluj.
