Parcul Carol I

Carol I Park is the first purpose-built park in Bucharest, inaugurated in 1906 for a great jubilee exhibition, a creation of the French landscape architect Édouard Redont. Set on Filaret Hill in the south of the city, the park combines elegant paths, terraces and monumental staircases with a symmetrical composition descending toward a lake. Here stand the Monument to the Heroes of the Nation with the Eternal Flame, as well as charming remnants: the Zodiac Fountain with mosaics, the Grottoes with waterfalls and historic buildings. Old trees provide generous shade, and the views over the city from the high points are pleasant.
The park hosts events and remains a quiet place to stroll, less crowded than the great parks in the north. It is ideal for a relaxed afternoon on foot. Admission is free; check the schedule of the sites and of any events held here.
