Palatul Administrativ (Prefectura Dolj)

The Administrative Palace of Craiova, also known as the seat of the Dolj Prefecture, is one of the most imposing public buildings in the city and a remarkable example of early 20th-century architecture. Raised to the plans of the architect Petre Antonescu, it blends the Neo-Romanian style with eclectic influences, presenting a monumental silhouette with towers and ornamentation that recall traditional Romanian architecture reinterpreted in a modern manner. Over time the building has housed leading administrative institutions and it remains the seat of the county authority.
Its richly ornamented facades, the tower clock and its ample massing make the palace a visual landmark in the urban landscape of Craiova. Located in the central area, near other monuments and the city parks, it is best admired from the outside during a stroll. The palace reflects the architectural ambitions of interwar Craiova and Petre Antonescu contribution to defining the national style.
