Muzeul Unirii Iași

The Union Museum in Iași is housed in the historic building that served as the residence of Alexandru Ioan Cuza during the time when Iași was the capital of Moldavia and he the first ruler of the United Principalities. The palace, an elegant Neoclassical edifice, hosted key moments of the Small Union of 1859, the founding act of modern Romania, when Cuza was elected prince in both Moldavia and Wallachia. Today the museum recreates the atmosphere of the age through period furniture, the ruler's personal objects, documents, paintings and testimonies of the historic process of the Union.
The visitor can walk through the salons, the study and the princely apartments, reliving the moment of the founding of the modern Romanian state. The building later served as a temporary royal residence as well. Practical note: combine the visit with the Palace of Culture, the city's monumental churches and a stroll along the central boulevard of Iași, the city of the first union.
