Muzeul Național de Istorie a României

The National Museum of Romanian History occupies the imposing former Postal Palace on Calea Victoriei in Bucharest, a monumental building raised in the early twentieth century in an eclectic style, its facade marked by massive columns. The museum holds one of the country's most important heritage collections, covering the history of Romanian territory from prehistory to the modern age. Among its emblematic pieces are the Historical Treasury, with objects of gold and silver, and the famous Pietroasa treasure. A special highlight is the full-size cast of Trajan's Column, whose reliefs recount the wars between Romans and Dacians.
A lapidarium and collections of archaeology, numismatics and medieval art complete the exhibition path. Set in the historic centre, near other museums and monuments, the museum is a key reference for understanding the Romanian past. Visitors are encouraged to check the schedule and any temporary exhibitions running at the time of their visit.
