Muzeul Național Cotroceni

The Cotroceni National Museum in Bucharest operates in the historic wing of Cotroceni Palace, a royal residence of great artistic and historical value, built at the end of the nineteenth century on the site of an old monastery founded by the ruler Serban Cantacuzino. The palace was the residence of the crown prince and later of the royal family, and its interiors, decorated in various styles from Neo-Romanian to Western influences, preserve period furniture, tapestries, silverware and works of art that evoke the life of the Romanian royal court. The museum also includes a space dedicated to the old Cotroceni monastery, with remains and a church rebuilt in its original form.
The visit offers a fascinating incursion into the history of the Romanian monarchy and the decorative art of the era. Practical note: the visit is usually made with a guide and by prior appointment, as part of the palace is an official residence; check the access conditions in advance.
