Muzeul Național al Satului Dimitrie Gusti

The "Dimitrie Gusti" National Village Museum in Bucharest, set on the shore of Herăstrău Lake, is one of the oldest open-air museums in the world, inaugurated in 1936 on the initiative of the sociologist Dimitrie Gusti. Across several hectares of parkland, authentic peasant houses, farmsteads, wooden churches, mills and gates brought from every region of Romania were reassembled, illustrating the richness and diversity of traditional rural architecture. Each structure, furnished and decorated in its original style, reveals the way of life of the Romanian village of old, from the low houses of the plains to the mountain farmsteads. Visitors stroll along cobbled lanes, among wooden fences and wells, as in a living village.

Craft fairs and periodic events further enliven it. It is an oasis of authenticity in the heart of the capital. Check the visiting schedule and the calendar of events.
