Muzeul de Istorie Vâlcea

The „Aurelian Sacerdoțeanu" County Museum of Vâlcea, in Râmnicu Vâlcea, preserves the memory of a region set at the foot of the Southern Carpathians, where the Olt River carves its way toward the plain. Its collections span the full history of the area, from the remains of the Roman forts that guarded the Olt valley and the Alutanus limes, to medieval pieces tied to the princely court and to the great monastic foundations of the region, such as Cozia and Bistrița. Visitors encounter Dacian and Roman pottery, coins, tools, weapons, liturgical objects and documents that illustrate Vâlcea's role as a hearth of faith and craft.
An important section is devoted to Romanian printing and old books, recalling that Râmnic hosted one of the most active printing presses of Wallachia. The museum runs temporary exhibitions and educational programmes for schools. Set in the town centre, it is a natural starting point for understanding the whole Olt valley, with its monasteries, spa resorts and fortresses.
