Muzeul de Istorie Paul Păltănea

The Paul Păltănea History Museum in Galați bears the name of a distinguished local historian and brings together collections that illustrate the past of this Danube port city, in the region of Moldavia. The display traces the evolution of the area from the earliest times to the modern era, with archaeological remains, documents, maps, photographs and objects that testify to the economic, social and cultural life of Galați. Set at an important crossroads of trade and river routes, the city played a significant role in commerce at the mouths of the Danube, and the museum highlights this strategic position and the cosmopolitanism that characterised the port over time.
The collections offer a coherent picture of local history and of the city's ties to the Danube region. Practical note: the museum visit provides useful context for understanding the city, and going through the thematic sections combines with exploring the Danube promenade and the other historical and cultural landmarks of Galați.
