Muzeul de Artă Cluj-Napoca

The Art Museum of Cluj-Napoca is housed in the Bánffy Palace, the city's most representative Baroque building, raised in the eighteenth century for one of the most powerful noble families in Transylvania. The elegant façade, with its monumental portal and the statues on the balustrade, is itself a work of art and a landmark of Union Square. Inside, the museum holds a rich collection of Romanian and European painting, from old works to modern art, as well as prints, sculpture, and decorative arts. Many important artists are represented, and the galleries allow a chronological journey through the development of the visual arts in the region and the country.
The palace has served other functions over time, but its use as a museum fixed its present cultural role. Visitors can combine viewing the collections with discovering the Baroque architecture of the building. It is worth checking which temporary exhibitions are on show.
