Mănăstirea Golia

Golia Monastery in Iași is a landmark of 17th-century Moldavian architecture, founded by the Golia family and rebuilt during the reign of Vasile Lupu. The church blends traditional Moldavian style with Renaissance and Baroque influences in an original way that was rare for its time. The Golia Tower, around 30 metres high, dominates the ensemble and rewards those who climb its more than 100 steps with a broad view over Iași. The fortified enclosure, with thick walls and corner towers, recalls the era when monasteries also served a defensive role.
The interior preserves valuable murals and finely carved stone decoration. The monastery is also linked to the writer Ion Creangă, who served as a deacon here. Set close to the city centre, Golia is easy to reach on foot and stands as an important reference for anyone discovering the spiritual and cultural heritage of Iași.
