Mănăstirea Bistrița Neamț

Bistrița Monastery in Neamț County is one of the oldest and most important monastic settlements in Moldavia, founded at the start of the fifteenth century by the ruler Alexandru cel Bun. Over time the monastery was supported and embellished by several Moldavian rulers, among them Ștefan cel Mare, who added a spire and a bell tower to the complex. Here are kept princely tombs and the relics of Saint John the New, once brought to the monastery, which makes this church an important place of pilgrimage. The church shelters fragments of old painting and a valuable iconostasis, testimonies of Moldavian religious art.

Set in a quiet natural setting at the foot of the mountains, the monastery combines historic value with an atmosphere of contemplation. Visitors can discover the links with the great rulers of Moldavia. It is best to respect the monastic rules and the quiet of the place during the visit.
