Libearty Bear Sanctuary Zărnești

Libearty Bear Sanctuary at Zarnesti is the largest brown bear sanctuary in the world, set at the foot of the Piatra Craiului Mountains, near Brasov. The reserve was created to offer a dignified life to bears rescued from captivity, many of them kept for years in improper conditions at restaurants, circuses or in small cages. Here the animals live in a vast oak forest, with generous spaces, water pools and proper food, close to their natural environment.

Visitors follow arranged trails, accompanied by guides who explain the story of each bear and the conservation efforts. The sanctuary has a strong educational role, drawing attention to the protection of wildlife. It is an impressive experience, suited to families and to nature lovers who wish to understand better the life of the bears of the Carpathian Mountains and the work of caring for them.
