Lacul Izvorul Muntelui (Bicaz)

Izvorul Muntelui Lake, also known as Bicaz Lake, is the largest reservoir within the country's interior, formed by damming the Bistrița river near Piatra Neamț. Stretching at the foot of the Ceahlău massif, the lake offers spectacular scenery, with water that mirrors the ridges of the sacred mountain of the Moldavians and the dense forests along its shores. The Bicaz Dam, an impressive structure from the 1950s and 1960s, feeds an important hydroelectric plant and reshaped the entire area. Visitors can take boat trips on the lake, admiring the panorama of Ceahlău, or explore the shores along picturesque roads that offer numerous viewpoints.

The area is an ideal starting point for hikes in Ceahlău and for visiting the nearby Bicaz Gorges.
