Insula Mică a Brăilei

The Small Island of Brăila is a wetland of exceptional natural value, located in the Danube floodplain near the city of Brăila, in Muntenia. It is a complex of islands, ponds, lakes and floodable areas that has been declared a nature park and included on the list of wetlands of international importance, and it is often regarded as a kind of inland delta of the Danube. The rich ecosystem shelters numerous species of birds, fish and plants, and the landscape, with waters, reed beds and floodplain forests, changes with the level of the river and the season.
The area is important for migratory birds, which find nesting and feeding grounds here. The Small Island of Brăila is a precious place for nature watching, for sport fishing and for those interested in the biodiversity of the Danube wetlands. Practical note: exploration is usually done by boat, and for birdwatching binoculars and patience are useful, along with respecting the environmental protection rules specific to a protected natural area.
