Cheile Râșnoavei

The Râșnoava Gorges are a narrow, picturesque defile carved by the Râșnoava river through the limestone massif between Râșnov and Predeal, near Zărnești, in Transylvania. The steep rock walls, covered in places by vegetation, rise above the road crossing the gorges, offering an impressive landscape loved by hikers, cyclists and climbing enthusiasts. The area is also known for the climbing routes set up on the cliffs, as well as for the opportunities for recreation in the midst of nature.
The gorges are part of a renowned mountain region, close to important tourist attractions, which makes them easy to include in a route through southern Transylvania. The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons, from the rich green of summer to the warm colours of autumn. Practical note: the gorges can be explored on foot or by bicycle, and climbing activities require specialised equipment and experience, or the company of a guide for beginners.
