Catedrala Înălțarea Domnului Buzău

The Ascension of the Lord Cathedral in Buzău is the town's episcopal cathedral and one of the most important Orthodox churches in the south-eastern part of Wallachia. For centuries Buzău has been a notable ecclesiastical centre, a bishopric seat since medieval times, and the cathedral carries on this tradition of spiritual residence. The episcopal complex includes, besides the main church, administrative buildings and a heritage of religious art linked to the old school of painters at Buzău, renowned in its day.
The interior holds mural painting, icons and liturgical objects that illustrate the richness of the local Orthodox tradition. Set in the town centre, the cathedral connects to the rest of Buzău's heritage, from the Communal Palace to the Crâng park. For visitors exploring Buzău County, with its Mud Volcanoes, the Living Fire at Terca and the rock-cut churches of the Aluniș-Nucu area, the episcopal cathedral is a natural stop and a symbol of the continuity of faith in this region.
