Casa Memorială Ion Creangă Humulești

The Ion Creangă Memorial House in Humulești, today a district of Târgu Neamț, is where the great Romanian storyteller, author of ‘Memories of My Boyhood', was born and grew up. The modest timber peasant house, with its porch and shingle roof, preserved as it was in the 19th century, is the very cottage described so warmly in Creangă's pages, and became Romania's first memorial literary museum, opened back in 1951. Inside are household objects, furniture and photographs recreating the atmosphere of the writer's childhood, while the yard evokes the world of the old Moldavian village.
The visit is an encounter with Romanian literature read by generations of schoolchildren and a cultural pilgrimage in the heart of Moldavia, easily combined with the Neamț Citadel and the nearby monasteries. Check the museum's hours, which may be shorter in winter, and allow a little time for the surrounding yard and garden.
