Biserica Sfântul Ioan Domnesc Piatra Neamț

St John the Princely Church in Piatra Neamț is one of the most valuable foundations of Stephen the Great, the great ruler of Moldavia, and a landmark monument of medieval Moldavian architecture. Raised at the end of the fifteenth century, the church is part of a princely court ensemble, alongside the bell tower that rises nearby, testimonies to the voivodal presence in this settlement at the foot of the Carpathians. The building embodies the classic Moldavian style, with its balanced proportions, its decoration of glazed brick and coloured ceramic discs adorning the façades, and the characteristic silhouette of the churches of Moldavia's golden age.
Piatra Neamț, a town in a spectacular natural setting, surrounded by mountains and set on the banks of the Bistrița, finds in this ensemble a heritage treasure of the first importance. For visitors discovering the Moldavia of Stephen the Great, with its string of monasteries and churches, St John the Princely is an essential stop and a living page of the country's medieval history.
