Biserica Sfântul Bartolomeu Brașov

St Bartholomew's Church is the oldest monument in Brașov, an early gothic building erected by the Saxon community in the 13th century. Located in the district that bears its name, the church has survived invasions and destruction over the centuries, largely preserving its original structure. The robust, sober building reflects the transition from the Romanesque to the gothic style, with thick walls, buttresses and narrow windows. Around it lie an old cemetery and traces of the fortifications that defended it, recalling the times when places of worship also served as points of refuge.

The interior preserves medieval elements and testimonies of the evangelical community that used it for a long time. Situated slightly outside the historic centre, the church offers a quiet stop, away from the tourist bustle. Practical note: as this is an old monument and an active place of worship, a discreet visit is advisable, and access to the interior may depend on the schedule of the local evangelical community.
