Vrancea County

At the bend of the Carpathians, Vrancea is a land of the vine and of moving earth. Here spread Romania's largest vineyards, at Odobesti, Panciu and Cotesti, a wine country known for centuries. This is also the country's seismic epicentre, the depths beneath Vrancea being the birthplace of Romania's great earthquakes.

Towards the mountains, the resorts of Soveja and Lepsa offer clean air and quiet, while the Putna-Vrancea Nature Park protects forests, gorges and mountain wildlife. The county seat, the town of Focsani, marks the old border between Moldavia and Wallachia, joining the two worlds at the gateway to the vineyards.
