Giurgiu County

Seat: Giurgiu

Set on the left bank of the Danube, south of Bucharest, Giurgiu county is a land of plains, water meadows and the remnant Vlasca forests. The river traces its border with Bulgaria, and the bridge at Ruse links the two shores, making the area a historic gateway to the south.

Its natural treasure is Comana Nature Park, a vast wetland of ponds, floodplain woods and rich birdlife, one of the few places in the Romanian plain where wild nature has survived. Close to the capital yet quietly overlooked, Giurgiu blends water, open field and the calm of Danube villages.
