Vaslui

A Moldavian town tied to Stephen the Great's victory at Podul Înalt (1475).

Vaslui is a town in eastern Moldavia whose name remains forever bound to one of the greatest victories in Romanian history. In 1475, at Podul Înalt, Stephen the Great crushed a far larger Ottoman army, a triumph that won the prince fame as a defender of Christendom. His statue dominates the town, and the county museum keeps testimony of those glorious times.

Set among the vineyard hills of Moldavia, not far from the wine country of Huși, the town blends historical memory with the calm of the vine-covered land. For the traveller crossing the east of the country, Vaslui is a stop with historical resonance, where the memory of the great voivode intertwines with the taste of Moldavian wines.
