Muzeul Sării Slănic Prahova

The Salt Museum at Slanic Prahova is arranged inside a former salt mine, deep beneath the town of Slanic Prahova, within an impressive underground landscape of high galleries and walls of rock salt. The Unirea salt mine that houses the museum is known for its considerable dimensions and for its clean, salty air, believed beneficial for the respiratory system, which has turned the place into both a tourist and a treatment destination. Visitors descend underground to discover salt sculptures, bas-reliefs depicting historical figures, and displays explaining salt extraction over time.

The temperature in the mine stays constant and cool throughout the year, so warmer clothing is recommended. The site suits families and offers recreational areas as well. Slanic Prahova is also known for the salt lakes at the surface, formed by the collapse of old workings, which complete the experience of the visit.
