Muzeul Național al Unirii

The National Museum of the Union in Alba Iulia is one of the most important history museums in Romania, dedicated above all to the events surrounding the Great Union of 1 December 1918, when the union of Transylvania with Romania was proclaimed at Alba Iulia. The museum holds rich collections of archaeology, history and art, covering periods from prehistory and Dacian and Roman antiquity to the modern age. Nearby stands the Union Hall, the place where the great national assembly was held, a symbol of great significance for the history of the country. The exhibits include artefacts, documents, weapons, coins and testimonies that illustrate the dense past of this region.

Set within the impressive Alba Carolina citadel, the museum forms part of a remarkable historical and tourist ensemble, with Vauban-style fortifications. The visit can be combined with exploring the citadel, the cathedrals and the other monuments of Alba Iulia. The museum is an essential site for understanding the national history of Romania.
