Cetatea Mediaș

The Medias Citadel is a medieval fortified ensemble in the heart of Transylvania, raised by the Saxon community to defend the town against invasions. The core of the citadel is the Evangelical church of Saint Margaret, an impressive Gothic building dominated by the tall tower nicknamed the Trumpeters' Tower, a landmark visible from a great distance. The defensive walls, guild towers and gates preserved to this day bear witness to the system of fortification typical of the Saxon towns of the area.

Within the enclosure stand out architectural details, carved portals and objects of medieval art. The Medias Citadel is a witness to the rich history of the Tarnava towns and an attraction for lovers of heritage. Set in the historic centre, the citadel is easy to explore on foot; checking the opening schedule of the church and the tower is recommended.
